About Us

This year marks the 28th anniversary of Dixon-Hall Fine Art. The co-owners, Tim Dixon and Audrey Hall spent many years gaining valuable experience before forming their partnership. Tim Dixon is a fine artist and graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After graduating from the Academy, he worked for many of the galleries and museums in Philadelphia including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Schwarz Gallery and was director of Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century paintings at the Gross McCleaf Gallery. He headed the Art Department at Freeman’s Auction for three years. Audrey Hall received her B.A. from Pomona College in Claremont, CA (1981) and her M.A. from Bryn Mawr College (1983) and was researcher and writer of over ten publications while employed at the Schwarz Gallery over a period of six years. With common interest and similar backgrounds, a partnership was formed, Dixon-Hall Fine Art.

Dixon-Hall Fine Art specializes in 19th-20th Century American and European paintings and works on paper. The inventory covers a broad range of periods, styles, and subject matter including 19th Century Hudson River School landscape, sporting and animal art, still life, portraiture, Impressionism, and Modernism. A special focus is on mid-Atlantic artists, especially painters who studied, exhibited or taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, women and African-American artists, Pennsylvania Impressionists and Modernists. The “Philadelphia Ten” women painters who gathered together for exhibitions from 1917 to 1945 are of special interest. The inventory also includes many artists and subjects of New England, such as seascapes of coastal Maine and Gloucester and members of the Boston and Connecticut Schools.

The gallery resides in a 200 year old historic Pennsylvania Colonial farmhouse near Valley Forge National Park, just 45 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Many of the rooms have been converted to gallery spaces in order to house and display the almost 300 paintings in the collection. The gallery is open by appointment only. When not at the gallery, Dixon-Hall Fine Art exhibits at premier fine art and antiques shows.
